Hall Yards Cottage is located in the village of Wall in the high uplands of Northumberland. If you’re looking for a relaxing retreat in the countryside, this is the ideal place. Steeped in history, the village takes its name from the nearby Hadrian’s Wall which runs close to the Northumberland National Park.
Wall is also close to the charming town of Hexham which was voted England’s favourite market town by Country Life magazine. With great shopping facilities, local inns, restaurants and a buzzing arts scene, there will be plenty for you to discover. If you’re interested in history, head to Hexham Abbey which dates back to 674. For those who want a fun day out, Hexham has its own racecourse where you can enjoy the races and incredible views of the rolling countryside too. We'd also recommend trying the delicious Scandinavian-style Hjem restaurant - Northumberland's first Michelin starred restaurant - which is a short 2-minute walk from the property!
The nearby town of Hexham is roughly a 10 minute drive from the cottage. Hexham has plenty of bus routes including trips to Newcastle and the Metro Centre. There is a bus stop in Wall which travels through to Hexham so you can get there easily.
Kielder Water is a large man-made reservoir not far from Wall. It is the largest artificial lake in the United Kingdom by capacity of water and it is surrounded by Kielder Forest, one of the biggest man-made woodlands in Europe
The nearest train station is Hexham which has routes from Newcastle, Carlisle and Sunderland.

We absolutely loved our stay here! It was clean and well decorated throughout. The beds were so comfortable and there were lovely throw blankets if the wood burning stove didnt warm you up enough! It was a lovely little village with the restaurant Hjem only a small walk or drive from the cottage (though we didnt try it with the kids, we'll be trying it when we're on our own). All in all it was a great few nights away!
Great location and beautiful place next to one of the most stunning areas in England. Highly recommended.
Nice setting and cottage was finished to a high standard.
Cosy cottage in a lovely village. Easy parking on street outside. Unfortunately the reason for staying here was the village pub which was no longer serving food, but Hexham is very close and has many good eating options.
Absolutely beautiful base for a few days exploring Northumberland with our 1 and 3 year old. Very comfy bed and sofas, well equipped kitchen and high quality fixtures and fittings throughout. Easy check in and out, great communication. Highly recommended.
Beautiful unit exactly as advertised. The bed was comfortable and there were high end finishes throughout. A nice touch on a rainy day was the wood stove and available supplies to build a fire. FYI-There are games in the hassock. We didn’t find them until our last day. Heads up- the name of the cottage is not visible from the road and we had to ask a few people for directions which was a bit of a nuisance. You might want to bring an extra roll of toilet tissue if there for a few nights as that supply was not at a premium. Otherwise a very enjoyable stay.
Lovely cottage in a very nice part of Northumberland. The check in and check out was very smooth. A very clean and well equipped cottage - would definitely recommend to anyone who is thinking of staying there!
We had a lovely stay in Hall's Yard Cottage. It was beautiful, quiet, and had everything we needed. We would definitely stay there again.
5 star facilities. Great location to explore. Lovely setting.
Lovely cottage right in the middle of everything we wanted to see and do.All very comfortable and in a very charming village, with a lovely pub only a short walk away.
Beautiful property, ideal location for anyone looking to explore Northumberland. Felt like staying in high end hotel. The wood burning stove is a really nice touch. Look forward to visiting again.
Brilliant location! Thoughtful touches!
We stayed here due to our move on our home, our full stay was unbelievable,
Log burner was fully stocked, tea, sugar ect all provided.
The place is immaculate,
the owners popped in to ensure we were ok and had everything we needed.
Couldn’t fault the stay to be honest, great from start to finish.
We had a great stay in this lovely cosy cottage in the pretty village of Wall.
We had such a great few days here! The cottage is absolutely gorgeous and was the perfect cosy space to retreat to after a long cold walk along the wall. There are lots of things to do nearby and the village itself is very cute. We would certainly come back!
Beautifull accomodation, modern, well equiped and super cosy. The village of Wall is a perfect location with friendly locals and a great base to explore from. We strongly recommend Hall Yards Cottage for a relaxing care free break.
This home in Wall is absolutely luxurious. My boyfriend and I spent a cool and beautiful early October weekend here. We were blown away by how many special and thoughtful touches there were to this clean and modern space.
The hosts supplied a welcome of fresh bread and milk and grapes, in addition to staples like coffee and tea and butter.
The kitchen is fully stocked and ready to cook in. The fridge is on the smaller side but fits plenty for a weekend away and even has a small freezer.
Everything felt very luxurious and modern and we loved sitting on the sofa with a glass of wine in front of the wood burning stove.
The village of Wall is small but absolutely stunning and rural. We didn't have a car but felt that we could time the public transport well enough to get around.
We visited the Chester Roman Fort and took walks around the neighborhood and to Planetrees Roman wall which was beautiful in the cool autumnal air.
The pub attached to the Hadrian Hotel is right down the road and has fantastic food and hospitality as well.
One of the owners even introduced herself to us one evening and we remarked at how friendly and warm everyone in the village was!
We had the most memorable time at Hall Yards Cottage and really recommend this home to anyone looking for a quiet stay in the countryside with all the modern amenities!
Warm and cosy.
One of the bedrooms has single bunk beds. Whilst perfect for children and teenagers, it may not be suitable for a group stay of adults.
The property doesn't have a bathtub but it does benefit from a walk in shower.
